Information you provide directly

• Account information: email address, first name
• Payment information: when you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe, our third-party payment processor. We do not directly collect or store your full credit card number, CVV, or other sensitive card details — Stripe handles this. We do retain records of your subscription status, billing history, and plan type.
• Topic preferences: the theological topics you select to personalize your digest
• Contact form submissions: name, email address, and message content if you contact us
• Source suggestion submissions: name, suggested source link, explanation, and email address if you submit a source for consideration

Information collected automatically

• Usage data: pages visited, time spent, general interaction patterns, collected via Google Analytics (GA4)
• Device/browser information: IP address, browser type, device type, collected via Google Analytics
• Session data: a secure session token is created when you log in via magic link, allowing you to remain logged in for up to 30 days

We use cookies for:

• Authentication: to keep you logged into your account
• Analytics: Google Analytics uses cookies to understand aggregate site usage patterns

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Create and manage your account
• Deliver your personalized daily digest based on your selected topics
• Process payments and manage your subscription (via Stripe)
• Respond to contact form submissions and source suggestions
• Send transactional emails (magic-link login, account notifications) via Postmark
• Understand aggregate usage patterns to improve the Service (via Google Analytics)
• Maintain the security and integrity of the Service

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information or email address to third parties, advertisers, or data brokers. We never have, and we never will.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account remains active. If you cancel your subscription, we retain your data for 90 days to allow for account reactivation, after which it is deleted or anonymized, except where retention is required for legal, tax, or accounting purposes.

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months from collection.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Delete your account and associated personal information
• Export your data in a portable format
• Opt out of non-essential analytics tracking

You can manage your topic preferences and account details directly from your dashboard at any time. You can cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal accessible from your dashboard.

7. Children's Privacy

Tidings is intended for users 18 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@tidings.news.

8. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including relying on the security practices of our service providers (Stripe, Airtable, Postmark, Google, Anthropic), each of which maintains their own industry-standard security measures. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Users

Tidings is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
